About Me

MY STORY

Coming from a long line of teachers and artists, Katie’s work explores the contradictions and complexities of Asian America, addressing themes such as identity, mental health, and family.

As a former instructor of Asian American Studies at City College of San Francisco and San Francisco State University, Katie founded REALSOUL, a curriculum-based arts organization for K-8. The mission of REALSOUL is to foster cross-cultural solidarity and ignite collective action through curriculum, programming, and workshops. She is a passionate advisory member for the Asian American Women Artists Association, Square and Circle Club, and The Association of Chinese Teachers. In her free time, you can find her sleeping, bouldering, or swatting gnats from her indoor plants.

Katie Quan (she/her) is a third-generation Chinese American born and raised on Ramaytush Ohlone land (San Francisco). She is a visual artist, community advocate, and educator.

Her art has been exhibited at the Kearny Street Workshop, A PLACE OF HER OWN, and the Asian American Women Artists Association (AAWAA). Her short film, REAL SOUL, premiered at the DisOrient Film Festival. Recently, she was a an Emerging Artist recipient of the Youth Speaks and California Arts Council’s Individual Artist Fellowship.
